Chhattisgarh’s remote Usur block ranks second nationally in NITI Aayog report

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai calls achievement proof of governance reaching the grassroots

Raipur May 22, 2026/ Chhattisgarh’s remote Usur block in Bijapur district has secured second position in the Central Zone in NITI Aayog’s “Champions of the Quarter” rankings for Aspirational Blocks for the October-December 2025 quarter.

The achievement is being seen as a significant milestone for one of the state’s most remote tribal regions, reflecting improvements in healthcare delivery and social development indicators.

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated residents of Usur block, healthcare workers and the district administration on the achievement, describing it as evidence of effective implementation of welfare schemes at the grassroots level.

“This achievement reflects our commitment to good governance and effective delivery of schemes to the last mile. Ensuring healthcare access in remote Bastar villages remains our priority. The success of Usur under difficult conditions is an inspiration for the entire state. This success belongs to our grassroots healthcare workers, Mitanins, ANMs and doctors who worked with dedication on the ground. Our next goal is to secure the top position in the country,” Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said.

Forest and Climate Change and District in-charge Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap said “This national recognition of Usur block under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai is a matter of pride for the entire state. It shows that government schemes are reaching people even in the remotest areas with visible impact. Despite difficult geographical conditions, healthcare workers and the district administration have shown remarkable dedication. Usur, once seen as a region lacking basic facilities, is today emerging as a development model for the country. The credit for this achievement goes to doctors, ANMs, Anganwadi workers and Mitanin sisters who worked tirelessly at the grassroots level.”

According to the assessment released by NITI Aayog, the rankings were based on several health and social development indicators.

Usur recorded strong performance in control of communicable diseases through campaigns against malaria, dengue and other infections in remote villages. The block also reported a major rise in institutional deliveries, contributing to reduction in maternal and infant mortality. Regular vaccination drives for children and pregnant women, including HPV immunization, were implemented successfully at the grassroots level. The block was also recognized for expanding screening and treatment facilities for non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and cancer in rural areas.

Bijapur Collector Shri Vishwadeep and district health officials thanked Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and District in-charge Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap for support stating that this national recognition is a matter of pride for the entire district and a major motivation for our teams on the ground. With continued support from the state government, we are now focused on further improving the quality of healthcare services and working towards securing the top national position in the coming quarters.
